Health Assessments in Tewantin
Tewantin Health Assessments
Health Assessments are preventative appointments designed to support early detection and long-term wellbeing. For patients aged 75 years and over, these assessments focus on maintaining independence, mobility, memory and overall health and can conveniently be combined with a driver’s license medical where required.
Health Assessments are also available every three years for people aged 40-49 who are at risk of developing diabetes as well as a one-off health check for people aged 45-49 years.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Straight Islander peoples are eligible for Medicare-funded health assessments at all ages, supporting culturally appropriate, holistic care across the lifespan.

At Tewantin Medical Centre, we tailor each assessment to your needs, whether it’s age-related, linked to chronic disease management, or aimed at preventing future issues through early detection and intervention.
Your appointment may include reviewing your medical history, conducting a physical examination, ordering blood or diagnostic tests, and updating vaccinations.
How We Tailor Your Health Review
Every health assessment begins with a detailed conversation about your current wellbeing, lifestyle, and any concerns you want addressed. This discussion ensures the process is shaped around your specific needs, focusing on areas most relevant to your personal health goals and helping identify potential risks or conditions that may benefit from early intervention.
Your GP may conduct in-clinic checks such as blood pressure, heart rate, and mobility assessments, alongside optional screenings like hearing, vision, or lung function tests. If further investigation is needed, we arrange pathology or imaging through trusted providers, ensuring you receive a complete and accurate picture of your health without unnecessary delays.
Once your results are available, your doctor will clearly explain the findings, highlight any health risks, and provide practical, achievable recommendations tailored to your lifestyle. Where ongoing care is required, you’ll receive referrals or a follow-up plan designed to monitor progress, manage conditions, and support your long-term health outcomes over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of a health assessment?
A health assessment helps identify potential health risks, address current concerns, and support long-term wellbeing. It combines medical history review, physical checks, and targeted tests to create a personalised plan. This can include lifestyle advice, early detection strategies, and referrals to ensure your health is managed proactively and in line with your needs.
How should I prepare for my health assessment?
Bring your current medications, recent test results, and relevant medical history. Write down any symptoms, lifestyle changes, or health goals you’d like to discuss. Comfortable clothing is recommended, as some checks may require movement or access to certain areas. Preparing in this way ensures the appointment is thorough and tailored to you.
Are health assessments covered by Medicare?
Many health assessments are bulk-billed for eligible patients, meaning there is no out-of-pocket cost. Eligibility depends on your age, health status, and Medicare guidelines. Your GP can confirm whether you qualify for a funded assessment and will ensure any tests or follow-up care are arranged in the most cost-effective way possible.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a family member or friend for support. This can help with remembering information, discussing results, or feeling more comfortable during the appointment. Your GP will still ensure privacy and confidentiality while including your support person where it benefits your care and understanding of the plan.
